Why Foster Families Need Community Support

Across America, thousands of families step forward to care for children who need safety, stability, and love. These families open their homes and hearts to children who have experienced trauma, loss, and uncertainty.

But many foster families quickly discover something they were never fully prepared for.

Fostering isn’t just about opening your home.
It’s about carrying emotional, physical, and spiritual weight that most people never see.

And too often, foster families carry that weight alone.

Some of The Hidden Challenges Foster Families Face

Many foster parents begin the journey with hopeful hearts and strong intentions. They want to help children heal and provide the stability those children deserve.

But the reality of foster care can be harder than they expected.

Many foster families experience:

• Burnout from the constant emotional and logistical demands
• Isolation when friends or family don’t understand the journey
• Judgment from people who don’t know the full story
• Stress navigating systems, appointments, and trauma behaviors
• Feeling misunderstood or undervalued despite the sacrifices they make

Some were told support would be there.

But when life becomes complicated, that support sometimes disappears.

Because of this, over half of foster families stop fostering within the first year.

Not because they don’t care.

But because they feel like they are doing it alone.

Foster Care Was Never Meant to Be a Solo Journey

When a family chooses to foster, they are doing something extraordinary.

But they were never meant to carry the entire mission by themselves.

Healthy foster care systems require community support.

Churches, neighbors, businesses, friends, and local organizations all have a role to play.

Sometimes support looks like:

• bringing a meal
• offering childcare
• encouraging words
• sponsoring family outings
• listening without judgment
• simply showing up

These small acts can make a tremendous difference in the life of a foster family.

The Power of Community

When communities step in, foster families are stronger.

When foster families are supported, children are more likely to thrive.

And when children thrive, the future of our communities changes.

This is why our journey across America is focused on encouragement, connection, and awareness.

We want to celebrate the families who are already stepping up — and inspire others to stand beside them.

Because foster care should never be the responsibility of one family alone.

It takes a village.

How You Can Help

You don’t have to foster to make a difference.

You can support the mission by:

• encouraging foster families in your community
• helping connect us with foster organizations in your state
• partnering with our journey through sponsorship or donations
• inviting Maggie to speak at your church or organization
• sharing the message so more communities step up

Together, we can help ensure foster families feel seen, valued, and supported.

And when that happens, children receive the stability and care they deserve.
